This three-volume catalogue (Exlibris-Katalog des Gutenberg-Museums, Wiesbaden 1985, 1998 und 2003) refers to those bookplates of the museum which were produced around 1850 – 1950. It describes and shows more than 48,000 bookplates from the Tropp Collection and other provenance. The sorting of the bookplates was done according to artist’s name.
A separate volume gives additional information on worthwhile publications and facilitates search by listing the owners.
So far this has been the world’s most comprehensive catalogue of its kind.
Not yet sorted: “early” leaves, accessions of recent years, all ex-libris that are attached to books (which are to be found in the museum depot), and all ex-libris made by unknown or (still) unidentified artists.
